(For Non-Muslims’ Use Only)
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has launched a new web-based app to help people everywhere engage in daily actions to grow closer to God. The app is called “Become” and can be found at become.org.
Through simple, self-guided “paths,” users can choose to go through short engaging activities to learn more about basic spiritual truths. In longer experiences called “journeys,” users can choose to dive deeper into spiritual topics through enhanced interactions, scriptures, sermons and more. Whether on a path or a journey, people using this app are invited to do things to enhance their understanding and discover additional perspective, peace, comfort and joy. For example, in the path about how Jesus comforts us, users are asked, “Who could you help comfort this week? Take a moment and think of someone who may be in mourning. Write down their name and select an action you want to commit to this week.”
Other topics for users to engage with include how to pray, serving others, a life of joy, hear God speak, working through disappointment and forgiving others.
“This new web-based app is an important way to help people become better acquainted with God through personal experience—whatever their understanding of Him and wherever they may be on their spiritual journey,” says Elder Marcus B. Nash, a General Authority Seventy and executive director of the Church’s Missionary Department. “We want everyone everywhere to have this opportunity to choose to do things at their own pace to learn more about our Father in Heaven and His Son Jesus Christ. Jesus taught us that we will come to know God, and experience peace and joy, by doing the things He invites us to do. Anyone who comes unto Christ by small and simple daily actions will become a happier, more hopeful and more fulfilled person. Such a person will find peace and purpose, and be a blessing to family, friends, community and the world.”
The broadly applicable purpose of the Become app connects to teachings given at the most recent general conference by Prophet and President Russell M. Nelson. He asked Latter-day Saints to not only “let God prevail” in their lives, but to also seek those outside the faith who are open to this idea.
“We often pray that we and the missionaries will be led to those who are prepared to receive the truths of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ,” the prophet said. “I wonder, to whom will we be led when we plead to find those who are willing to let God prevail in their lives? We may be led to some who have never believed in God or Jesus Christ but who are now yearning to learn about Them and Their plan of happiness.”
The prophet promised that anyone willing to let God prevail “will experience for [themselves] that our God is ‘a God of miracles.’”
