"Charity Never Faileth", the theme of the women's organization of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was put into action on March 14 as five Mormon women shared their experience and knowledge with thirty mothers at the Association of Services and Community Development of Gombak District (PSPK).

PSPK was established to provide assistance, education, and training to women in need. Henry Sandanam, founder of PSPK has developed this Non-Government Organization in part by successfully partnering with other humanitarian groups. Having worked with LDS Charities, the humanitarian arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Henry knew he could call on the church for assistance. Several women in his group were striving to better their financial position in life. They sought the opportunity to learn baking skills and produce a product which could be sold. The goal was to learn to bake banana bread muffins. The Rotary Club of Malawati had donated the baking ingredients but PSPK needed baking instructors.
The challenge was given to LDS Charities, who turned to members of The Relief Society, the women's organization of the Mormon Church. Carol Ng, Jennie Han, Joyce Yong, from church congregations in the Kuala Lumpur area, and missionaries Linda Thatcher and Marie Hadley donned aprons, refined recipes, brushed up on language skills and manned mixers to accomplish the goal. Thirty Malay, Chinese and Indian women attended the baking class. These women were given recipes and taught skills which will allow them to perfect their baking skills and prepare muffins for marketing to local residents and vendors throughout Kuala Lumpur.
The language barrier was overcome through love, cooperation and great enthusiasm. Every woman attending the event went away with a deeper appreciation of what can be accomplished when women of varied cultures work together for a common goal. Each left PSPK with a smile, a new friend and a bag of warm banana muffins.
