The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released additional disability resources on ChurchofJesusChrist.org, including Bible Videos in American Sign Language (ASL) and audio description formats, 25 translated disability resource videos, and new and translated gospel symbols in nine languages.
“Creating and translating disability resources is an ongoing effort,” said Katie Edna Steed, disability specialist manager for the Church. “We recognize we still have a long way to go, but we are committed to increasing the disability resources available to Latter-day Saints around the world.”
Bible Videos in ASL
The Church’s Bible Videos series, which brings to life events in the New Testament, are now available in ASL in Gospel Library and the Media Library.
Audio Description Versions of Bible Videos
Audio description versions of Bible Videos are also available in Media Library and Gospel Library.
In Media Library, navigate to Video Collections, select Videos With Audio Description, then choose Bible Videos - The Life of Jesus Christ - Audio Description.
In Gospel Library, to find the audio description option, navigate to Videos and Images, click on Bible Videos, and select a video to play. From the video player, click on Languages and select English (Descriptive).
Translated Disabilities Resource Videos
The Church has translated 25 disabilities resource videos into Cebuano, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish and Tagalog, which are available under the Life Help section of Gospel Library.
This selection of videos features Latter-day Saints from around the world living and thriving with various disabilities. “We have had requests from all around the world to have more resources available to support members with disabilities,” said Katie Edna Steed, the Church’s disability specialist manager. “We feel having these videos that portray individuals with disabilities as they come unto Christ will be a good start in fulfilling these requests.”
Additional English and Translated Gospel Symbols
The Gospel Language Symbols library has expanded the number of available English symbols to 117, and the first set of translated symbols are now available in Cebuano, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish and Tagalog.
These language symbols represent words and phrases related to the Savior’s Church and His gospel and are often helpful for Latter-day Saints who communicate with visual images.
To navigate to the symbols in Gospel Library, select Life Help, then Disabilities, then Gospel Language Symbols.
