Finding a career invokes stress for many young adults. One young man, Ben, affirmed the stresses inherent in this period of his life. “But,” he said, “I have gained the testimony that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ love and care for us. They are willing to help us through our unique challenges. If we have faith, They will help us.”
Another young man, Ricky, affirmed that: “With new friends and an expanded perspective, I am happy and am able to go forward and do things I never thought possible.”

What is the source of Ben and Ricky's consolation? They attended the Young Single Adult (YSA) Conference for the Kuala Lumpur and Ipoh Districts of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints held August 31 through September 2, 2018 at Asia Camp near Kuala Lumpur.
Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are counseled to become self-reliant. They have been taught that if they have faith and develop the abilities to provide the necessities of life for themselves and family members, the Lord will bless them temporally.
Young adults are in a stage of preparation for adult life. They have opportunities to develop faith in Jesus Christ and keep His commandments. This is also a time to practice good habits of wisely managing time, learning to manage money, developing the ability to work, honing problem-solving skills, learning to communicate effectively, demonstrating tenacity, and having personal integrity.
A key element for young people in providing for their future is to obtain education and work skills. How do they do that?
The Church has instructional and financial resources to help young adults be aware of educational opportunities and obtain the necessary preparation for their field of work. Bobby Leo, self reliance specialist for the Church, is one of the facilitators in Malaysia to help young adults qualify for funding of their education, compete successfully in their course work and become employed during this critical time of preparation. He conducted workshops on multiple days of the conference helping the young adults recognize the resources available to them.
The young adults were engaged as they listened and asked questions of Bobby. Many felt they gained essential information to move ahead. And of course, the activities and social interaction, which provided the incentive to attend, were a bonus.
