On April 22, 2018, a large group of participants packed the assembly hall of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Petaling Jaya to sing Handel’s Messiah with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. The Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square had performed several weeks previously to celebrate Easter and a recording including the words was projected so the group could sing along.
Participants included 75 members and friends of the Church desiring to worship the Savior through song. A dozen children from The Pure Life Society and Interfaith Spiritual Fellowship (InSaF), a local interfaith organization, were among the group.

Most of the participants admitted they had little familiarity with the aria, but almost all recognized the more popular selections. As is customary, the group stood to sing The Hallelujah Chorus and did so with enthusiasm. Some of the pieces were complex, but attention was focused in an attempt to perform correctly and reverently. One participant, Brian, stated, “I felt like those around me had never had an experience like this. But their attentiveness was evidence that they enjoyed it.”
Attractive and delicious refreshments added to the pleasure of the occasion. At the conclusion, the members of the group were presented with a certificate of participation as a remembrance of the memorable event.
