Prior to receiving their new calling, President Ho served as the District President for the Kuala Lumpur West Malaysia District while Sister Ho was the District Temple and Family History Consultant. Growing up in Malaysia, both are well accustomed to the multicultural environment of this region. Being converts to the Church, they have had numerous church callings to learn, grow, serve, and worship with Latter-day Saint members in Malaysia.

Receiving the call to serve as Mission Leaders in the Singapore Mission was a faith-building experience for each of them. President Ho shared his thoughts and feelings when the calling was extended to him and his wife by the First Presidency.

He said, “The First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve would take a year to consider possible candidates, during which time their names are prayed over in the Temple to seek confirmation from the Lord. After knowing this, I was assured of my new calling because Heavenly Father has called us to the Lord’s work. We can draw upon His strength and guidance. One scripture that humbled me and gave consolation is how the Lord calls 'the weak and the simple' to do His work.”

Sister Ho prayed and received a confirmation after reading a General Conference talk by Elder Ronald A. Rasband entitled “By Divine Design” from the October 2017 session.

She quoted, “Not all that the Lord asks of us is a result of how strong we are, how faithful we are, or what we may know...the Lord knows what each of us is capable of doing and becoming.” She commented, “…I realized that our mission leader calling is not because of what we have done to be worthy of it, but what the Lord wants us to become through the work He calls us to do.”

President and Sister Ho have aspirations for the Church in Malaysia and Singapore, now and in the future. They said they would continue to soldier on to build and strengthen the great work that is already progressing in the mission, and likewise support the Area leaders in a collective effort to eventually establish the first stake in Malaysia, and prepare for a temple in the country. They also emphasized having long-term vision and sustainable growth for the church in both countries, especially in terms of membership on the covenant path.

Both commented, “Our focus will be to assist all of our young and senior missionaries to become lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ by fulfilling their missionary purpose. In addition, we will emphasize district leadership training to ensure the rising generation is given opportunities to develop leadership skills. Strong leadership will result in sustainable growth for the Church.”

President Ho added, “The Latter-day Saint community in Malaysia is still small, and we seem like just a drop in the ocean. Because of this and in spite of it, there is a great opportunity for us to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ and stand out as examples in the crowd. As we serve our families, friends, and the community with love and kindness, we are like candles that shine as lights to lead all to Christ.”

Born in Setiawan (Perak), Malaysia, President Ho served a full-time mission in the Japan Okayama Mission from June 1990 to June 1992. He graduated from the University of Tokyo with a Doctorate in Engineering specializing in Highway and Traffic Engineering. His earlier education was completed at the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand and the University of Melbourne in Australia with a Master of Engineering (Transportation) and Bachelor of Civil Engineering respectively.

Sister Ho shared, “Heavenly Father loves us. He knows each of us personally. He knows our potential. I know as we strive to live His commandments, we will be able to reach our potential through the grace of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. The Lord will lead us to the path where we will be blessed with His strength to be what He wants us to become. I know Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer. He lives.”

Sister Ho hails from Sebauh (Bintulu), Sarawak, East Malaysia. She served in the Salt Lake City Temple Square Mission from July 1995 to January 1997 and spent four months during that time in the California Oakland Mission. A graduate from the University of Toronto, Canada, she received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology.

They are both appreciative of their children and family who have extended full support to their mission leader call these next few years. They also expressed exceeding gratitude to the exemplary life of their parents and church leaders who have been role models of goodly actions and a godly life, which made they wish to emulate these qualities in their personal and family life.
