2016 CHRISTMAS INITIATIVE 'Light the World' to launch November 25

Global online and local efforts focus on Christ-like service

Since a new star first appeared above Bethlehem, Christmas has been a season of light, reminding us that Jesus Christ is the light of the world. Share that light starting with a Worldwide Day of Service on December 1. Then, watch for daily videos and Christlike service suggestions to make your Christmas season more meaningful. Whether you're serving or being served, share it on social media, using the hashtag #LIGHTtheWORLD.

“As we follow the example of the Savior and live as He lived and as He taught, that light will burn within us and will light the way for others,” said President Thomas S. Monson in a general conference address in October 2015.

Sharable online content is available at mormon.org beginning November 25, including a video that invites the public to perform acts of service following Christ’s example during the Christmas season. The service effort kicks off Thursday, December 1, with a Worldwide Day of Service.

Church leaders encourage people of all faiths to become involved in this global initiative to "Light the World"
