Turn on Your Light

Leaders and members in Malaysia express blessings from Gospel living

9 September 2019 – Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia │ Relief Society District Conference

Gathering to learn from the Relief Society leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia District, was a stimulating experience for many who attended.

The theme and activities were centered on Turn on Your Light, a talk given by Sharon Eubank in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA during the Church’s annual general conference.

The conference began with an opening session introducing the theme through an activity, turning on battery operated candles as soon as the room lights were turned off. The golden glow from these battery operated candles set a warm atmosphere, radiating a sense of gladness, assurance and refuge from the darkness in the room. Like a candle lighting a dark room, Gospel living is the light that would bring us peace and safekeeping in a world embroiled in conflict.

Three sessions were conducted. Each focused on three topics centered on strengthening Gospel living efforts: 1) being articulate helps to us communicate effectively; 2) being different and unique is a blessing; 3) and, being righteous brings goodness. Activities were held during these sessions to enhance the sisters’ understanding in applying the Gospel in their individual and family life. The activities taught them effective Gospel application that would make them a shining example and a disciple of Christ. They learned that disciples serve, care and love. This is the ultimate purpose of the Relief Society Organization of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with its motto Charity Never Faileth

Over 30 years ago President Spencer W. Kimball prophesied: “Much of the major growth that is coming to the Church in the last days will come because many of the good women of the world will be drawn to the Church in large numbers. This will happen to the degree that the women of the Church are seen as distinct and different in happy ways from the women of the world.” (“The Role of Righteous Women,” General Conference, October 1979)

The Kuala Lumpur District Relief Society Presidency endeavors to strengthen the joys of Gospel living among the women of the Church in Malaysia.
